Big Pool Boat Ramp

The Big Pool Boat Ramp is located adjacent to Fort Frederick State Park and at the southern end of the C&O Canal’s Big Pool basin area. Parking, restrooms, and concessions are available at Fort Frederick. No boat rental available.

Blairs Valley Lake straddles the Maryland and Pennsylvania line and is located just north of Clear Spring, Maryland. Blairs Valley Lake is managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and offers a boat ramp and parking. No boat rental available.

The Wilson Bridge Picnic Area is located along Route 40 west of Hagerstown, Maryland, and provides hand-launch canoe and kayak access to the Conococheague Creek.

Lock 38

The turnoff for Canal Road is immediately before the Route 34 Bridge that leads into Shepherdstown, West Virginia. There is a boat ramp and a parking lot a short distance downriver from bridge that provides access to the C&O Canal. Stores and restaurants as well as bike and boat rentals are available across the river in Shepherdstown, about 3/4 mile.

Indian Springs Wildlife Boating

Indian Springs WMA is a 6,400-acre tract in Washington County near the town of Clear Spring. Visitors enjoy strolling a self-guided nature trail, learning about many plants which are used by wildlife. Trails are maintained but not actively marked. Use of Indian Springs WMA is generally permitted seven days a week throughout the year. Hunting is allowed in accordance with open seasons and shooting hours. Visitors should be aware of open hunting seasons and visit accordingly. Season dates are available in newspapers, on the Internet, and at some area stores.
