Harpers Ferry National Historical Park includes parts of West Virginia, Maryland, and Virginia. Harpers Ferry National Historical Park is considered one of the best walking parks in America. The park has about 20 miles of hiking trails. The trails vary from easy, riverside strolls to four-mile hikes across Civil War battlefields to eight-mile adventures to the tops of mountains. Bicycles, vehicles, and horses can damage trails and historical resources and so are not allowed on any park trail. Leashed dogs are allowed. Indian Springs WMA is a 6,400-acre tract in Washington County near the town of Clear Spring. Visitors enjoy strolling a self-guided nature trail, learning about many plants which are used by wildlife. Trails are maintained but not actively marked. Use of Indian Springs WMA is generally permitted seven days a week throughout the year. Hunting is allowed in accordance with open seasons and shooting hours. Visitors should be aware of open hunting seasons and visit accordingly. Season dates are available in newspapers, on the Internet, and at some area stores.
