Learn about important and stirring events from the Battle of South Mountain\, while you hike along a road trace used by thousands of soldiers during the September 14\, 1862 battle. The guided hike begins at Turner’s Gap and ends at Fox’s Gap. Participants will have the option to spend additional time exploring Fox’s Gap and hike back to the parking area on their own. DESCRIPTION:View flyer \nThis is the third annual A21 Walk for Freedom in Hagerstown to raise awareness of human trafficking.  It is an international event.  Thousands from around the world in many cities are walking on this same day!  It is a walk of silence.  Participants wear black and walk single file as a group.\n\nA21’s mission is to end modern day slavery.  A21 is “a nonprofit organization fueled by radical hope that human beings everywhere will be rescued from bondage and completely restored.  They are the abolitionists of the 21st century who work to free slaves and disrupt the demand.  Human trafficking is destroying lives\, but freedom will have the final word.”\n\nThe local goal this year is to raise $3000.  All funds raised go to A21.  Registration can be done on-line in advance or on the day of the walk at the Discovery Station\, 101 West Washington Street\, beginning at 9am.  (No donation is required to join the walk.  Donations can be made by check payable to A21.)\n\nFor more information about A21\, please checkout their web site: a21.org

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 6th annual Hagerstown Out of the Darkness Walk\, taking place on Saturday\, October 13th at City Park in Hagerstown. \nSuicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for ages 10 to 35 in Maryland and every suicide affects at least 100 people in our community. This fully supported hike on the beautiful C&O Canal towpath. You can look forward to snacks\, water & Gatorade refills along the way.  All hikes will be along the C&O Canal in Maryland and will end at the beautiful Shepherd Springs Retreat Center with a very short hike through the woods.  All hikes will end at our “Celebration” pavilion where participants  can relax and enjoy a delicious lunch and friendships. \nThis year’s hike will include two levels of “photo scavenger hunt\,” one for younger children to give them a fun activity while enjoying the outdoors\, and the other for older youths and adults with prizes for the winners. \nAll hike groups are fully supported with “sweepers” to ensure everyone makes it back safely. \nWe will all meet at Shepherd’s Spring Outdoor Retreat Center and you will be driven to your start point. Start points on C&O Canal towpath are Taylor’s Landing\, Snyder’s Landing\, and Antietam Aqueduct. Walk or run back to Shepherd’s Spring while enjoying water & Gatorade refills and snacks along the way. Children can participate in a nature scavenger hunt or photo scavenger hunt.
